You don't need to be able to swing or jive dance to enjoy Holiday in Harlem - but if you don't know how and would like to learn, we can help you!
Holiday in Harlem is run by Martin Ellis of Swingland - Martin and the Swingland team teach regular swing dance (Lindy hop) classes throughout the week in the W and SW London areas, where you can learn and practise in a fun and really friendly environment.
Lindy hop is one of the fastest-growing partner dances around the world today - it's fun, sociable and keeps you in shape! It's a lot less formal than most of the traditional ballroom dances too. Lindy hop dates back to the original jazz and swing era - it was born and developed in the dance halls of 1920s and 30s Harlem before spreading around the world in the 1940s under the more well-known names of Jitterbug and Jive. Since the mid 1980s Lindy hop has undergone an astonishing world-wide rennaissance and is now danced in just about every major city - London was one of the original rennaissance cities and has one of the World's strongest scenes. Swingland was set up in 1998 and is proud to have played a major part in this rennaissance.
