The 1931 Club

The 1931 Club evokes the origins of The Bedford (est 1931) in the heady days of the original jazz and early swing era.

The 1931 Club

Swing out to the very best live music at the weekend!

The 1931 Club is Swingland's occasional Saturday or Sunday night at The Bedford, Balham (home of our weekly Tuesday night, C Jam). Featuring the very best live swing music for dancing.

Running very occasionally - on the rare occasions that The Bedford's stunning, and ever popular, ballroom is available - we book the very best bands so that you can swing out to live music the way it was always meant to be. Everyone is welcome - you don't need any dance experience.

Smart/vintage/retro attire is very much appreciated, although not enforced.

The Bedford
The Ballroom at The Bedford

As well as being a friendly and vibrant community pub, The Bedford is a renowned live music venue, and has been home to many of Swingland's events since mid-2000. Dating back to 1931, the building was subject to a £multi-million renovation in 2018 - sympathetic to the original style, and retaining plenty of period features. The bar downstairs is open for drinks, meals and snacks throughout the evening. The ballroom upstairs - where you'll find us via the original marble staircase - is absolutely stunning.

Entrance to The 1931 Club is via the pub doors on Bedford Hill, then the door to the right which takes you to the staircase. The ballroom, where you'll find us, is on the first floor.
